SWAN

With the advent of National e-Governance Plan (NeGP), now renamed as Digital India and with a wider mandate, delivery of services online to the Citizens is envisaged to become a routine matter rather than an exception. However, for delivery of services online to the Citizens, the Government offices need to be connected to each other either on an Intranet or via Internet, for which the State Wide Area Network(SWAN) was established.

Existing SWAN network has been upgraded by providing a bandwidth capacity of 40 to 50 MBPS at the DHQs at cheaper cost using wireless technology so as to enable better communication and information sharing to allow the officers to work more effectively, resulting in cohesive administration. To ensure stable & reliable connectivity, 14 District Head Quarters (DHQ) has been connected on wireless and Imphal West & East were connected on OFC. In order to provide redundant connectivity at DHQs, 9 DHQ has been connected on OFC out of 14 District Head Quarter which were connected earlier on Wireless.

IT Department has already connected 1086 Government offices,Colleges, Higher Secondary, High Schools and Hospitals/PHCs/CHCs to the SWAN POPs located at DHQs on OFC at extremely affordable and reasonable cost under the SWAN Project.
